Greenmoore Gardens is a locally owned and operated Organic Community Supported Agriculture Farm which is located on Buffalo Run Road (Rt. 550) just outside of State College, PA. We grow our vegetables using sustainable methods, and are USDA-certified Organic, which means we do not use any form of modern synthetic inputs in our farming methods. We do not use any type of synthetic fertilizer, herbicide, insecticide, nor do we grow any foods that contain genetically modified organisms, or are processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives.
In these times of rising food and fuel costs and uncertain futures, Greenmoore Gardens produces vegetables of quality and in quantity to make our farm your “one-stop” vegetable source.
What is CSA?
Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farm. Community Supported Agriculture connects people with the farms and farmers who grow their food. Members invest in a season’s worth of produce before the growing year begins by subscribing to a share type that suits their needs. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. In return for their investment, members receive a box of seasonal produce each week throughout the harvest period. In addition, members may choose to purchase egg, dairy, fruit or meat shares as offered by the CSA.
This arrangement creates several rewards for both the member and the farmer.
Advantages for members:
- Eat ultra-fresh food with all of the flavor, vitamins, and nutrients that only local organic produce can provide
- Try new vegetable varieties and discover new ways to prepare them
- Visit the farm to see exactly where your food comes from
- Kids typically favor food from “their” farm – even veggies they’ve never been known to eat
- Many opportunities to develop a relationship with the farmer who grows their food and to learn more about how food is grown
Advantages for farmers:
- Ability to spend time marketing their produce early in the year, before their long days in the field begin
- Receipt of payment early in the season, which helps with the farm’s cash flow
- Many opportunities to develop a relationship with the members who enjoy the farm’s harvest
Mission Statement:
Greenmoore Gardens aims to provide fresh, nutritious, high-quality organically grown produce to our local community. We believe in working with other farmers, community members, and educators to create a more sustainable food system and future for our community, and are proud to be part of the greater movement to strengthen local food security in the face of a faltering global food system.
In 2012, we will have educational events for our community such as gardening workshops, hands on learning through agricultural-related activities, and on-farm research.
